What are high-efficiency power supplies?

Industrial power supplies that exhibit efficiencies of 80% or better are typically considered high efficiency. (A point to note is that Energy Star efficiency standards for power supplies, as set by the Environmental Protection Agency, don’t apply to industrial supplies.) High-efficiency power supplies can be more compact and can run cooler than less efficient models because they dissipate less energy as heat. The higher the efficiency, the less heat is produced. This allows for the power supply to be made smaller or without a fan.
