Instructions for Clippard LVA-2, LVA-3, LVAO-2 & LVAO-3 Internal Valve Mechanisms The internal valve mechanism is one of a group of Clippard cartridge valves. These are poppet type valves machined from brass and stainless steel. The seals are Buna-N and all brass parts are chemically-treated to resist corrosion. Used in the limit valve, the maximum flow (2-way or 3-way) is 19 cfm at 100 psig and 10 cfm at 50 psig. Pressure range is 0 to 300 psig.
Model Cartridge Valve Rugged/versatile Clippard heavy-duty limit valves function to replace electrical limit switches and solenoid valves in pneumatic circuits. They have the same operating characteristics as other types of limit switches, but provide pneumatic outputs to actuate other pneumatic devices for control of systems. They are available in four models, as listed below, and are furnished without actuator arms, which may be selected separately to suit installations. Model Type There is no external difference in appearance between the 2-way and 3-way models. The limit valve consists of three units: the internal valve cartridge, the valve housing, and the actuator head, shown at right. The valve cartridge can be removed, with the air supply off, without disturbing mounting or piping connections. To remove the valve cartridge, unscrew the brass retaining plug at the bottom of the valve housing and withdraw the valve cartridge.
CAUTION: Always turn off the air supply before removing the retaining plug. Take care not to drop or damage the valve cartridge while removing it. Keep the cartridge and valve cavity clean. Actuator Head Replacement Part #12600
Valve Housing
Internal Valve Cartridge
The valve housing is anodized aluminum. Four (4) mounting holes are provided. These are drilled 13/64 to accommodate #10 screws, or may be tapped 1/4-20. Valve ports are tapped 1/8-27 NPT. Exhaust port is threaded for convenience in porting away exhaust air or muffling noise. It is IMPORTANT that exhaust port is not restricted in any way on the LVA-3 or LVAO-3 limit valves. The exhaust port is not used on the LVA-2 or LVAO-2, and it may be plugged if desired.
Plunger Orientation The valve can be set to actuate when the knurled shaft is rotated either clockwise or counter-clockwise or in both directions. To adjust the valve to actuate in either or both directions, remove the actuator head and rotate the step plunger. Insert the step plunger into the bronze bearing in the valve housing and fasten the actuator head over it, taking care to maintain the proper orientation between the plunger and head.
Actuator Rotation The rotation of the knurled shaft in the actuator head actuates the valve. Maximum shaft rotation is 50° in either direction. The drawing shows an actuator head with a Clippard Model K Roller Arm mounted vertically. Note: Do not over-travel the actuator head.
Mounting Actuator Head The actuator head is die cast, and is fastened to the valve housing with four (4) captivated screws. It may be positioned in any one (1) of four (4) directions on the valve housing to meet actuation, mounting or piping requirements. Note: Actuator arms and levers are attached to the knurled shaft on the actuator head. They may be fastened in any position through 360° with rollers, levers, etc. turned toward the head or away from it. · |
